Report: Baylor's Scott Drew passes on Kentucky opening

Scott Drew is staying put at Baylor after turning down an offer to become Kentucky's next head coach, a source told CBS Sports' Matt Norlander.

Drew had serious conversations with the Wildcats to replace John Calipari, per Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68.

One of the main reasons Drew opted to remain in Waco was because his family didn't want to leave, adds Goodman.

The Bears' lead man was reportedly among Kentucky's head coaching targets along with former Florida head coach Billy Donovan.

Drew later released a statement regarding his decision.

Drew also turned down an opportunity to take over at Louisville.

The three-time Big 12 Coach of the Year has rebuilt Baylor into a powerhouse, posting a 446-244 record over his 21-year tenure. He's guided the program to 12 NCAA Tournament appearances, including its lone national championship in 2021.

Kentucky is coming off another disappointing campaign, falling to 14-seed Oakland in the opening round of the Big Dance. The Wildcats haven't made the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament since 2019.
