Dickinson commits to Kansas following transfer from Michigan

Former Michigan standout Hunter Dickinson will transfer to Kansas for the 2023-24 season, he announced Thursday.

The 22-year-old landed on the Jayhawks over Georgetown, Kentucky, Maryland, and Villanova, according to On3 Sports' Joe Tipton.

One of the top centers in the nation, Dickinson averaged 18.5 points, nine rebounds, and 1.8 blocks through 34 games with Michigan last season as a junior. He was selected to the All-Big Ten first team for a second time, adding to a list of accolades that includes the Big Ten Freshman of the Year award and a consensus All-American second-team selection, both in 2021.

The 7-foot-1 Virginia native unexpectedly entered the transfer portal on March 31 as a graduate transfer after three years in Ann Arbor. Dickinson led the team in scoring, boards, and blocks in each of his seasons. On Wednesday, he confirmed he wouldn't return to the Wolverines in a final goodbye to the program.

"I've grown and learned so much in my three years at Michigan, and if I could do it all over again out of high school, there is no doubt in my mind I would make the same choice," Dickinson said in a statement. "That being said, it's time for me to move on."

Dickinson helped take Juwan Howard's side to the Elite Eight as a freshman and followed that with a trip to the Sweet 16 in his sophomore campaign. Michigan failed to make the NCAA Tournament this past season after falling outside the bubble.
