Baylor lands 5-star recruit Ja'Kobe Walter
Five-star recruit Ja'Kobe Walter announced his commitment to Baylor on social media Wednesday.
Walter is the 17th-ranked prospect on the ESPN 100 for 2023. The 6-foot-5 guard chose the Bears over Texas, Kansas, Alabama, and Auburn.
Baylor was the first school to offer Walter a scholarship, and that stuck with the Texas native.
"Back on June 22nd of 2020 at 5:42 pm, I got my first offer from Baylor," Walter told 247Sports' Eric Bossi. "Then, on June 22nd of 2021, I took my first unofficial visit and that was to Baylor. So on June 22nd of 2022, I wanted to commit at 5:42 because that's when I posted my first offer.
"All of this was on accident. Well, the commitment is on purpose, but the other two just happened to be the same day."
Walter averaged 23.3 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.3 steals, and 1.9 assists during his junior year of high school.
