Five-star recruit Dariq Whitehead committed to Duke's 2022 class, he announced Sunday.

Whitehead, a talented wing from Montverde Academy, is the first five-star recruit to commit to the Blue Devils since longtime head coach Mike Krzyzewski announced he plans to retire following the 2021-22 season.

"Growing up, Duke has always been the school of my dreams," Whitehead said about his decision, according to ESPN's Jeff Borzello and Paul Biancardi. "I loved Coach K, the style of play and the type of players he recruited.

"Once my recruiting process began, I started having mixed feelings seeing all the other opportunities out there. I was getting so much love from different schools, it made my decision hard. It wasn't until my official visit, the moment I stepped foot on campus, I knew Duke was home."

Ranked as the country's No. 6 prospect in 2022 by ESPN, Whitehead will join the program for the 2022-23 campaign when Krzyzewski's current assistant Jon Scheyer will take over as head coach.

It's the second significant addition over the last week for Scheyer. Duke's head coach-in-waiting secured his first commitment Thursday with four-star forward Kyle Filipowski.
