Mike Miller steps down as assistant coach at Memphis

Memphis Tigers assistant coach Mike Miller is leaving the program, he announced Wednesday.

"The past two years have been amazing, and I have so many people to thank: Coach (Penny) Hardaway for believing in me, all our players for their commitment, the University of Memphis and its incredible fans, my wonderful wife and kids, and the entire city of Memphis for everything you have done for me and my family," Miller wrote.

Miller joined the Tigers' staff in April 2018 after a 17-year career in the NBA. He helped Memphis reach the 2019 National Invitation Tournament as the team posted a 22-14 record during the 2018-19 campaign.

The 40-year-old also played an important role in the school's recruiting efforts, most notably helping land a commitment from star freshman Precious Achiuwa, who has declared for the NBA draft.

Miller based his decision to leave the Tigers on a desire "to spend more time focused on family."
