Roy Williams calls squad 'least gifted team I've ever coached' at UNC
North Carolina head coach Roy Williams didn't hold back while delivering a brutally honest assessment of his current Tar Heels squad.
After falling 96-83 to Georgia Tech on Saturday, the longtime bench boss said on his radio show Monday that his roster is "the least gifted team I've ever coached in the time that I've been back here," according to ESPN.
With the loss, the Tar Heels dropped to 8-6 on the season. Despite opening the campaign ranked ninth and climbing as high as fifth in Week 3, North Carolina fell out of the top 25 by Week 7.
"We stunk, OK. We were not very good," Williams added regarding Saturday's loss. "The crazy thing about it is, our team, and we've had some very gifted teams, this is not a very gifted team. It's just not."
Several knee injuries have affected the Tar Heels' performance this season.
Star point guard Cole Anthony hasn't played since Dec. 8 due to arthroscopic knee surgery to repair a partially torn meniscus, and freshman Anthony Harris is expected to miss the season with a torn ACL. Junior big man Sterling Manley is also out for the year after undergoing knee surgery of his own.
