UNC star Anthony out indefinitely with knee injury
North Carolina star Cole Anthony will be out indefinitely with a knee injury, the school announced prior to Sunday's game against Wofford.
Treatment plans will be evaluated and determined over the next few days.
The loss of Anthony is a big blow to a Tar Heels offense that's already struggling to score. The freshman guard is averaging a team-high 19.1 points while also contributing 6.3 boards, 3.6 assists, and 1.9 steals per contest.
Anthony was the second-ranked recruit on the ESPN 100 for 2019. He's expected to declare for the NBA draft following the collegiate season and is projected to be a top-five pick.
K.J. Smith is expected to start at the point in Anthony's absence.
Sophomore guard Leaky Black is also sidelined on a game-to-game basis due to a sprained right foot. He and Anthony are North Carolina's top two 3-point shooters.
The news for forward Sterling Manley was even bleaker. The 6-foot-11 junior underwent season-ending surgery Thursday to repair cartilage in his left knee. Manley had yet to play this season after making 18 appearances in 2018-19.
The Tar Heels (6-3) are entering Sunday's game against Wofford on a two-game losing streak.
