5-star recruit Nimari Burnett commits to Texas Tech
Five-star recruit Nimari Burnett is heading to Texas Tech next season.
The 6-foot-3 guard was the 19th-ranked prospect on the ESPN 100 for 2020, and he's the highest-rated recruit in school history.
Alabama, Michigan, and Oregon were also pursuing Burnett.
"I chose Texas Tech because of the winning culture of the program and the coaching staff," Burnett told ESPN's Paul Biancardi and Jeff Borzello. "It felt like a big family."
The Red Raiders have now landed four top-40 recruits in their last three recruiting classes after securing just a single top-100 prospect during the first 10 years of ESPN's recruiting database. Burnett joins four-star commit Micah Peavy in the fold for next season.
"Texas Tech takes great pride in player development," Burnett said. "Look what they have done in player development, Zhaire Smith and Jarrett Culver. Everyone knows their role and the players improve. (Head) coach Chris Beard is not only a humble man but one who keeps it real. I can trust him with everything."
Burnett averaged 19.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, and three assists across 20 appearances on the Nike EYBL circuit in July.
