Dwight Howard moves on to Peak after deal with Adidas ends
China-based Peak Sports has landed its biggest NBA apparel endorsement to date, signing up Dwight Howard of the Houston Rockets.
"I had a great run with Adidas," the eight-time All-Star said at his youth camp Saturday after the deal was finalized last week in Beijing. "Peak is an up-and-coming company and we're really looking forward to helping them grow in the States."
Peak already has NBA stars including George Hill and Tony Parker wearing its shoes. Ninety percent of the league's shoe market is controlled by Nike, with Peak fighting Adidas and Under Armour for the rest.
The fact that Howard plays for Houston is no accident. The Rockets have remained one of the most popular NBA teams in China since the Yao Ming era, with multiple sponsorship deals with Asian entities.
