Report: Wizards sign Josh Harrellson to training camp deal
As summer turns to autumn, colder weather brings both a new NBA season and an important reminder: It's never too chilly for jorts.
The Washington Wizards have signed Josh Harrellson, affectionately known as "Big Jorts," to a non-guaranteed training camp contract, according to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports.
A second-round pick of the New York Knicks (via the then-New Orleans Hornets) in 2011, Harrellson has appeared in 75 NBA games over three seasons with three teams, averaging 3.5 points and three rebounds while hitting 34.7 percent of his outside looks. A quality shooter at 6-foot-10, Harrellson could provide spacing in the frontcourt if he stuck with a team.
That's fairly unlikely, more than a year removed from his last NBA action. The Wizards already have 15 guaranteed contracts on their books, which is the maximum for a roster once the season begins, so Harrellson may be auditioning for other teams in the preseason.
The 26-year-old split last season between Puerto Rico and China, averaging 12.4 points, 8.7 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.8 blocks across the two leagues while knocking down 36.2 percent of his 3-point attempts. The Kentucky product averaged 8.4 points and 5.1 rebounds with the Phoenix Suns at summer league in July.
