Steve Kerr isn't going anywhere.
The Golden State Warriors are bringing back their longtime head coach on a new two-year deal, Kerr's agents told ESPN's Shams Charania.
Kerr will remain the NBA's highest-paid coach under his new contract, sources told Charania.
The 60-year-old was set to become a free agent following his 12th season at the helm in Golden State, where he's compiled a 604-353 record and won four NBA championships. However, the Warriors finished the 2025-26 regular season in 10th with a 37-45 mark before being eliminated from the play-in tournament by the Phoenix Suns. In the final seconds of the season-ending loss, Kerr embraced Stephen Curry and Draymond Green on the sideline, thanking them and acknowledging uncertainty about his future.
However, injuries stymied the Warriors this year. Jimmy Butler tore his ACL in January, sidelining him for the remainder of the season and potentially a chunk of the next campaign. Stephen Curry also missed all of February and March due to bone bruising and patellofemoral pain syndrome in his right knee.
Warriors veteran Draymond Green, who has spent all but his first two NBA seasons playing for Kerr, said in April that he hoped the former Coach of the Year would return next season but admitted it felt unlikely.
Kerr's 604 wins are the most by any coach in Warriors' history. He surpassed Al Attles for the franchise mark when he picked up his 558th victory in March 2025.
