DeMarcus Cousins has taken almost two weeks' worth of sick days, but he's got a doctor's note to excuse him.

Out since Nov. 28 with a heretofore unspecified illness, the Sacramento Kings center has been diagnosed with viral meningitis, according to Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee

Here's a description, from the CDC:

Meningitis is an inflammation of the tissue that covers the brain and spinal cord. Viral meningitis is the most common type of meningitis. It is often less severe than bacterial meningitis, and most people usually get better on their own (without treatment).

Head coach Mike Malone said Saturday that he's not optimistic Cousins will be able to play on Monday when the Kings host the Utah Jazz, citing the fact that Cousins has refrained from physical activity since coming down with the illness. Jones added that Cousins is apparently still being bothered by headaches.

Sam Amick and Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today later reported that Cousins will likely attempt to resume basketball activities late this week, and is expected to miss at least another 7-10 days.
