1967 - Wilt Chamberlain's record shooting streak comes to an end
Wilt Chamberlain missed a shot for the first time in four games, ending his NBA-record streak at 35 consecutive field goals. The mark has never been matched.
Chamberlain's streak included a record 18 made field goals in one game on Feb. 24, 1967. He would earn his third MVP award and capture his first NBA championship that same year with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Chamberlain also grabbed 36 rebounds in the Feb. 28 contest. Five years earlier to the day, he recorded 61 points in a game.
1940 - First televised basketball game
The first televised basketball game was played between the University of Pittsburgh and Fordham on this date in 1940 at Madison Square Garden. Pittsburgh defeated Fordham 50-37.
The game was broadcast with just one camera on W2XBS - the predecessor to WNBC, NBC's flagship station.
