The Memphis Grizzlies waived veteran guard D'Angelo Russell, sources told Shams Charania of ESPN.
Russell, 30, landed in Memphis from the Washington Wizards in July as part of a six-team swap that included 10 other players, including John Collins heading to the Detroit Pistons and Khris Middleton returning to Washington. The Grizzlies were reportedly expected to part with Russell after acquiring him.
The Ohio State product opened the 2025-26 campaign with the Dallas Mavericks, helping fill a gap in their rotation at point guard while Kyrie Irving recovered from a torn ACL.
Russell played in the season's first 16 contests, making three starts and averaging 22.1 minutes during the first month. However, Dallas lost 11 of those games, and Russell's playing time swiftly dropped; he averaged 14.1 minutes and played in just 10 of the next 23 games before the Mavs sent him to the Wizards in February.
Russell put up 10.2 points and four assists per game for Dallas but shot just 40.5% from the field and a career-worst 29.5% from three. He didn't play for Washington after the trade.
