The Atlanta Hawks are becoming increasingly open to discussing trades for star point guard Trae Young, sources told The Athletic's Sam Amick.

However, the market for the four-time All-Star is considered minimal ahead of the Feb. 5 trade deadline, and the Hawks could address Young's status next offseason, notes Amick.

Young and the Hawks failed to agree on a contract extension prior to the start of the regular season. The 27-year-old holds a $48.9-million player option for 2026-27, which he can decline next summer to become a free agent.

Injuries have marred Young's eighth campaign with the Hawks, with the Oklahoma product averaging 19.3 points, 8.9 assists, and 1.3 rebounds in 10 appearances. His overall numbers are down from last season, when he led the league with 11.6 assists per game.

Young returned to Atlanta's lineup in December after missing 22 contests with a sprained right MCL. Since his return, Atlanta is 0-5 with him in the lineup. However, he's currently battling a right quad contusion, which will keep him out of Wednesday's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Hawks entered the 2025-26 season with high expectations after trading for Kristaps Porzingis and adding veterans Luke Kennard and Nickeil Alexander-Walker. Rising star Jalen Johnson was also expected to take on a larger role alongside Young after missing most of last campaign due to injury.

Atlanta hasn't established itself as a contender in the Eastern Conference this season, owning a 15-19 record and on a seven-game losing streak.
