Dallas Mavericks superstar Anthony Davis is expected to miss a few games after sustaining a minor groin strain during his team's Christmas Day loss to the Golden State Warriors, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania.

The Mavericks will evaluate Davis daily and take a cautious approach in determining his return, Charania reports.

Davis suffered the strain early in the second quarter when he pulled up lame while running down the court. He quickly went to the bench for an examination before heading to the locker room for the remainder of the evening. Davis scored three points with three rebounds and three blocks in 11 minutes of action Thursday.

The oft-injured center has been limited to 16 games this season because of a recurring left calf issue.

Davis continues to make an impact when available. The former first overall pick is averaging 20.5 points, 10.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.6 steals, and 1.6 blocks while shooting 52.1% from the field for the Mavericks this season.

That production has made Davis the subject of trade rumors in spite of his trouble staying on the court. Multiple contenders have reportedly been linked to Davis should Dallas make him available at this year's trade deadline.

Thursday's loss dropped the Mavericks to 12-20, leaving them one game out of the final Western Conference play-in spot.
