Report: Mavs land D-Lo on 2-year, $13M deal
Free-agent guard D'Angelo Russell is joining the Dallas Mavericks on a two-year, $13-million contract, sources told ESPN's Shams Charania.
The 29-year-old split 58 games last season between the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets, joining the latter as part of the December trade that sent Dorian Finney-Smith to Los Angeles.
Russell started in 26 of 29 appearances with the Nets, averaging 12.9 points, 5.6 assists, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.1 steals. However, he shot a career-worst 39% from the floor on the season, including a 31.4% mark from deep despite shooting 40.6% on threes in the two seasons prior.
Russell is likely to start for Dallas while starting point guard Kyrie Irving continues to recover from the ACL tear he sustained in March. Irving, 33, is expected to sign a new three-year, $119-million contract with the Mavericks, and the team is reportedly optimistic he will return from his knee injury in January.
The move reunites Russell with former Lakers teammate Anthony Davis. The two were together from 2022-25, including the team's run to the 2023 Western Conference finals, when the Lakers were swept by the eventual NBA champions, the Denver Nuggets.
