Nuggets' Westbrook undergoing hand surgery
Denver Nuggets guard Russell Westbrook is undergoing surgery to repair two breaks in his right hand, he announced on his "Word of Westbrook" newsletter Tuesday.
Westbrook said the breaks occurred during the season.
"I'm grateful for everyone's support all year, and I can't wait to be back out there at 100% soon," he said. "The comeback is already in motion."
The 36-year-old averaged 13.3 points, 6.1 assists, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.4 steals in 75 games for the Nuggets this season. He recorded 11.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.6 assists in 13 playoff contests, although he shot just 39% from the field.
Westbrook signed a two-year, $6.7-million contract with Denver last year. He holds a $3.4-million player option this summer.
The Nuggets finished the season 50-32. They were eliminated in the Western Conference semifinals by the Oklahoma City Thunder. Denver hired interim coach David Adelman on a full-time basis earlier in May.
