Report: Hawks eyeing Ujiri for president of basketball ops
The Atlanta Hawks have interest in hiring Toronto Raptors president Masai Ujiri for their new president of basketball operations role, sources told NBA insider Marc Stein.
It's unclear what sort of chance the Hawks have at hiring Ujiri away from Toronto, Stein adds.
Ujiri has served as the Raptors' lead decision-maker since 2013. He guided the franchise through it's most successful era in its history, making eight playoff appearances in nine seasons and winning its first championship in 2019.
However, the club has gone 96-150 since its last playoff appearance in 2022.
Ujiri also previously spent time with the Denver Nuggets, winning Executive of the Year in 2013.
The Hawks parted ways with general manager Landry Fields in April, promoting Onsi Saleh. Atlanta also announced its intention to hire a president of basketball operations, bringing in a consulting group for the search.
Fields was named general manager in 2022 and was responsible for drafting forward Zaccharie Risacher first overall last year.
The Hawks have missed the postseason in two straight campaigns.
