The Brooklyn Nets have traded forward Kessler Edwards and cash considerations to the Sacramento Kings for the draft rights to David Michineau, the Nets announced Tuesday, according to SNY's Ian Begley.
The deal required Edwards' permission as the Pepperdine product has a one-year Bird rights restriction in his deal, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
By completing the trade, Brooklyn opens up a roster spot and saves $8 million in salary and luxury tax.
Edwards has $650,000 in salary remaining this season and a $1.9-million team option for 2023-24, per ESPN's Bobby Marks.
Edwards averaged 5.9 points and started 23 games for the Nets last season. However, he's spent the majority of the current campaign in the G League with the Long Island Nets.
Brooklyn selected Edwards with the 41st overall pick in the 2021 draft.
Meanwhile, Michineau has yet to play a single minute in the Association since being taken 39th overall by the New Orleans Pelicans seven years ago.
