John Wall carried the load for the Washington Wizards for many years but is content to take a back seat on a deep Los Angeles Clippers squad.

"I don't have to do it every night, I don't have to be Batman every night for us to win," Wall said Saturday at the Las Vegas Summer League, according to ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk. "That's the ultimate goal for me is (at) this part of my career, I don't want to have to be the Batman every night to try to win. On our team that we have, I think anyone can be Batman."

Wall should still play a vital role for Los Angeles' title hopes this season. The club has lacked playmaking at the point guard position, and the five-time All-Star is set to compete for the starting gig with Reggie Jackson, sources told Youngmisuk.

While Wall hasn't suited up for an NBA contest in over a year, he had a productive 40 games with the Houston Rockets in 2020-21, averaging 20.6 points, 6.9 assists, and 1.1 steals.

"For me, I'm happy because I don't have to have the best player guarding me every night like I have had my whole career," Wall said.

"You tell me the third-best defender is going to have to guard me? Good luck."
