Los Angeles Lakers star big man Anthony Davis will miss at least four weeks after an MRI revealed a midfoot sprain, the team announced Thursday.

Prior to his MRI scan, Davis was reportedly expected to miss at least two weeks. He will now be re-evaluated by the team's medical staff after the four-week timeline.

The eight-time All-Star suffered the injury in the second quarter of Wednesday's win over the Utah Jazz. While coming down with a rebound, Davis' foot landed on Rudy Gobert's, causing the Lakers star to turn his ankle.

Davis' absence could deal a significant blow to the Lakers' playoff hopes. The club is currently ninth in the Western Conference at 27-31 and slated for a spot in the play-in tournament. However, Los Angeles is just two-and-a-half games above the Portland Trail Blazers, who occupy the final play-in seed, and four games clear of the New Orleans Pelicans in 11th.

L.A. is 10-11 in contests without Davis this season but 20-17 with him in the lineup. The four-time All-NBA selection is averaging 23.1 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 2.3 blocks, and 1.2 steals for L.A. in 2021-22.
