The Chicago Bulls are acquiring DeMar DeRozan in a sign-and-trade deal with the San Antonio Spurs, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.
DeRozan will pen a three-year, $85-million contract with Chicago that will be fully guaranteed, Charania reports.
The Bulls will reportedly send Thad Young, a future first-round pick, and two second-round picks to the Spurs. Al-Farouq Aminu is also heading to San Antonio in the swap, reports ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
DeRozan, 31, scored 21.6 points per game last season in his third year with Gregg Popovich's squad. He also averaged a career-high 6.9 assists per contest.
General manager Marc Eversley has played a significant role in the Bulls' chase for DeRozan, according to K.C. Johnson of NBC Sports Chicago. The two are reportedly close since their time together with the Toronto Raptors, where DeRozan spent nine seasons and Eversley served as assistant GM from 2006-13.
DeRozan's addition caps a busy start to free agency for the Bulls. Chicago acquired Lonzo Ball via a sign-and-trade with the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday, adding the guard on a four-year, $85-million pact. The Bulls then signed former Los Angeles Lakers fan-favorite Alex Caruso to a four-year, $37-million deal.
