Embiid suffered small meniscus tear, ruled out for Game 5

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid has suffered a small lateral meniscus tear in his right knee and won't play in Wednesday's Game 5 against the Washington Wizards, the team announced.

He'll continue to receive physical therapy and is officially listed as day-to-day.

The NBA MVP finalist was forced to exit Monday's meeting in D.C. during the first quarter after Washington’s Robin Lopez rejected his shot on a drive to the basket.

Embiid landed on his tailbone and briefly stayed in the game before being ruled out for the remainder of contest due to right knee soreness.

The four-time All-Star finished with eight points, six boards, and two assists over 11 minutes of action before undergoing an MRI on Tuesday that revealed the small tear.

Embiid entered Monday's game averaging 29.3 points on 67.4% shooting - including 54.5% from behind the arc - through three playoff outings.

The 76ers host the Wizards on Wednesday while looking to advance to the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs for the third time in four years.
