Atlanta Hawks forward John Collins will become a restricted free agent next offseason after he and the team failed to agree on a contract extension before Monday's deadline, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.

Collins will join a restricted free-agency class next year that will also feature New Orleans Pelicans guard Lonzo Ball and reportedly Chicago Bulls forward Lauri Markkanen.

The 23-year-old was drafted 19th overall by Atlanta in 2017. He had a career year last season, averaging a double-double of 21.6 points and 10.1 rebounds while shooting 40.1% from deep. However, he was suspended 25 games early last season for a violation of the league's anti-drug policy.

The Wake Forest product could emerge as one of the more enticing free-agent targets next campaign. In three seasons in the league, Collins averages 16.2 points, 8.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.1 blocks.

As a restricted free agent, the Hawks will be able to match any outside offers for Collins.
