The EuroLeague has canceled the remainder of its 2019-20 season due to the coronavirus pandemic, the basketball league's executive board announced Monday.
Play had originally been suspended temporarily on March 12.
"Without a doubt, this is the most difficult decision we have had to take in our 20-year history," EuroLeague basketball president and CEO Jordi Bertomeu said in a statement. "Due to reasons beyond our control, we have been forced to cut short the most successful and exciting season in European basketball history."
The board also chose not to select a champion for the 2019-20 EuroLeague season and the EuroCup.
The EuroLeague is widely recognized as the top basketball league outside of the NBA. It's comprised of 18 teams across 10 European countries. The 2020-21 season is slated to begin on Oct. 1.
