Report: Mitchell and Gobert's relationship 'doesn't appear salvageable'

Donovan Mitchell's frustration with Rudy Gobert has yet to subside.
Though both Utah Jazz players have now been cleared of COVID-19, Mitchell is reportedly still bothered by the French center's careless attitude prior to their positive test results and is reluctant to fix the relationship, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania, Sam Amick, and Tony Jones.
"It doesn't appear salvageable," a source told The Athletic.
The Jazz attempted to smooth things over between their two All-Stars. They reportedly told Mitchell that there is no way to decisively identify who transmitted the coronavirus to the other or if another factor was involved.
In a remote appearance on "Good Morning America" in April, Mitchell, who was then already in quarantine following his own positive test for the COVID-19 virus, said he was aware that Gobert had apologized for his reckless behavior.
Though his tone toward Gobert sounded more forgiving, he didn't address their relationship further.
"It took a while for me to kind of cool off," he said. "I read what he said and heard what he said. I'm glad he's doing OK, and I'm glad I'm doing well."
Mitchell declined an interview with The Athletic.
Forward Joe Ingles, who has played with both Gobert and Mitchell on the Jazz since the latter entered the league in 2017, believes Mitchell will eventually forgive Gobert.
"I'm confident our team is going to be totally fine," Ingles said. "I heard Donovan's response, or whatever it was, to that question, and a part of that is on Donovan and Rudy to sort out if he's frustrated with him or whatever.
"But I have no doubt when we go back to training, or when our season starts again, our team is going to be what we have been and what we are. ... I'm confident our team will be completely fine. The chemistry will be fine."
