LeBron says 'Space Jam 2' still on track to release in June 2021
The COVID-19 outbreak has led to a number of release delays in the film industry, but it doesn't sound like "Space Jam 2" will be impacted.
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James provided an update on the movie on the latest episode of the "Road Trippin' Podcast" with his former Cleveland Cavaliers teammates Richard Jefferson and Channing Frye.
"'Space Jam' has always been scheduled to come out in June of 2021, so we're kind of (okay)," James said (starts at the 38-minute mark). "And a lot of it right now is animation, so being indoors is actually great for us. So, we're still on. Just like everything in the world, everything is slowed down a little bit, but we're still on target. I'm looking forward to it. During this time right now, I wish we could release it right now, man, and give some people some things to watch in their households. But we got until next year, next summer. We're excited about it."
James also promised a "dope" soundtrack to accompany the movie, like the original "Space Jam."
"One of the first things I said when I was in my pitch meeting to do the movie, I was like, 'I love the movie and what it stood for back in the day, but the soundtrack alone ... if we don't get the right soundtrack, I don't want to be a part of it,'" James said. "Because that really drove the movie as well. It was an unbelievable thing."
James added that they'll include a few song clips in the promos for the movie, but are saving the "heavy hitters" for the release.
