Carter says there's 'no chance' he'll compete in dunk contest

It doesn't sound like Vince Carter's final NBA season will include an appearance in the Slam Dunk contest.

There has been plenty of support for Carter to participate in the contest, including from his Atlanta Hawks teammate Trae Young, but the 42-year-old was quick to shut down the possibility of it on the latest episode of his "Winging It" podcast.

"No chance," Carter said when asked by co-host Annie Finberg if he would consider competing in the dunk contest.

Carter explained that while he appreciates the support, he wants to make sure he's ready for the second half of the season.

"My main concern for me, and this is just me being me, the second part of the NBA season is important to me, 'cause it's the last time," he said. "I just want to be locked in for that ... just make sure I have enough gas in the tank, because I want to lay it on the line. You know, that last hurrah. Play hard."

Carter, who's playing in an NBA-record 22nd season, won the dunk contest in 2000.
