The 2019-20 NBA regular season isn't even underway, yet the Sacramento Kings are reportedly having second thoughts regarding their biggest move this past summer.
The club has expressed "some remorse" over its four-year, $85-million agreement with Harrison Barnes due to its impact on future contracts, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.
Sacramento currently finds itself at an impasse in contract negotiations with guard Buddy Hield and has set a precedent in talks with him based on Barnes' deal, according to Charania.
Hield is apparently holding out for approximately $110 million over four years and is entertaining the possibility of playing elsewhere if the club is unable to meet his demands prior to Monday's deadline for rookie-scale extensions.
Teammate Bogdan Bogdanovic has already been offered a max extension worth roughly $51.4 million over four years but has until June 30, 2020, to sign it.
Rising stars De'Aaron Fox and Marvin Bagley could also be set for huge raises down the line if they continue their upward trajectory.
Barnes declined his $25.1-million player option for this upcoming campaign in favor of long-term security. He averaged 14.3 points on 45.5% shooting from the floor - including a 40.8% clip from distance - across 28 appearances with the Kings last season.
