A source close to LeBron James was apparently optimistic just a few days ago - before the reported Anthony Davis trade - that Irving, despite his strong link to the Nets, was still a possible acquisition for the Lakers, according to The Athletic's Sam Amick.
Davis landing in Los Angeles may not deter Irving, either. Sources have said for months that the 27-year-old guard has long wanted to play alongside Davis, The Athletic's David Aldridge reports.
If Irving - or any other superstar free agent - hopes to move to Hollywood, they would have to sign with the Lakers before the trade for Davis is finalized. In that case, the deal would have to wait until July 30 to become official. The New Orleans Pelicans and the Lakers, though, are expected to formalize the swap as early as July 6, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
LeBron hinted the Lakers may not be done making moves this summer. After the agreement between Los Angeles and New Orleans was reported, he posted a photo of himself with the Brow in Lakers gear and wrote it was "just the beginning."
