The Washington Wizards have been granted an $8.6-million disabled player exception for John Wall, sources told The Athletic's Shams Charania.
The club has until March 11 to use the exception. The league's disabled player exception allows a team to sign a replacement player for the lesser of either half of the injured player's salary or the non-taxpayer mid-level exception. It doesn't count toward the salary cap.
The Wizards (20-26) sit 10th in the Eastern Conference, just two games back of the final playoff spot.
Wall underwent season-ending surgery on his left heel in early January and is set to miss six-to-eight months.
The five-time All-Star averaged 20.7 points, 8.7 assists, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.5 steals in 32 games played this campaign. Wall's four-year, $169.3-million extension will kick in starting next season.
