Durant apologizes for bashing Thunder in Twitter fail: 'That was idiotic'
Kevin Durant has owned up to some egregious social media behavior.
The Golden State Warriors forward fired off damning tweets, written in the third person, about the Oklahoma City Thunder late Sunday. Though he quickly deleted the posts about his former club, internet folks got hold of them and went on a witch hunt to find the secret social media accounts they allege Durant uses to defend himself against haters.
On Tuesday, Durant admitted he has more than one Instagram account and apologized for his actions, calling his tweets "childish" and "idiotic."
"I have another Instagram account, but that's just for my friends and family," he said Tuesday at TechCrunch Disrupt SF. "So I wouldn't say I was using it to clap back at anyone. I use Twitter to engage with fans. I think it's a great way to engage with basketball fans. I happened to take it a little too far. That's what happens sometimes when I get into these basketball debates about what I really love, to play basketball.
"I don't regret clapping back at anybody or talking to my fans on Twitter. I do regret using my former coach's name and the former organization I played for. That was childish. That was idiotic, all those type of words. I apologize for that.
"I don't think I'll stop engaging with fans. I really enjoy it and it's a good way to connect us all, but I'll scale back a little bit right now and just focus on playing basketball. I'll move on from that, it was tough to deal with yesterday. I was pretty mad at myself. Definitely want to move on and keep playing basketball."
Perhaps this embarrassing episode will benefit Durant, who's coming off a campaign in which he posted averages of 25.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 1.6 blocks, and 1.1 steals on the league's best team, and captured his first title and Finals MVP honors.
Just imagine a more focused version of that.
