Durant tells Kerr to focus on health, not basketball

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is still away from the team Wednesday as he battles debilitating headaches stemming from a botched back surgery.

While Kerr's inability to coach the title favorites is likely gnawing at him, Kevin Durant wants Kerr to focus on his long-term health.

"This (basketball) stuff doesn't matter," Durant told reporters after practice Wednesday. "We want him healthy for the rest of his life. That's what our main concern is. We're not trying to get him healthy just to coach us for the playoffs, we want him healthy so he can live everyday life as normal as he can."

Durant added, "We're all praying for him. It's good to see the NBA family show support, a lot of guys throughout the league have been showing him support. He's in our prayers and we're looking forward to him getting better, positive and optimistic that he'll get better, and we're looking forward to his return as well."

Kerr missed half of last season with the same condition, leaving former interim coach Luke Walton in charge. Walton was hired away by the Los Angeles Lakers, so that responsibility now belongs to Mike Brown.
