Cavaliers waive DeAndre Liggins days before end of season
With only three regular-season games to go before the playoffs, the reigning NBA champion Cleveland Cavaliers have decided to make a late adjustment to its roster.
The Cavaliers announced Sunday they have waived guard DeAndre Liggins.
He made the trip with teammates to Atlanta for Sunday's contest and was informed of his release by general manager David Griffin early in the day, according to ESPN's Dave McMenamin.
The 29-year-old made 61 appearances for Cleveland, averaging 2.4 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 0.9 assists on 38.2 percent shooting in 12.3 minutes.
Liggins started 19 games, most of which came after J.R. Smith went down with an injury. His numbers jumped in a larger role, but not by much, contributing 4.7 points and 2.2 rebounds while knocking down 40.2 percent of his field-goal attempts.
The roster now stands at 14, with the team reportedly looking to fill the newly vacant spot, per McMenamin. This would have to be done by Wednesday for the player to be eligible for the playoffs.
