MMA fans may have to wait a little longer to see a fight between UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya and Dricus Du Plessis.

Du Plessis isn't expected to be available to face Adesanya at UFC 293 on Sept. 9 in Sydney, according to MMA reporter Ariel Helwani.

Adesanya said he plans to stay on the card. He'll likely fight Sean Strickland for the middleweight belt instead, reports Helwani, who notes that Du Plessis was banged up going into his fight against Robert Whittaker on July 8.

Adesanya called Du Plessis out in a fiery video post Wednesday.

"You fucking bitch," Adesanya said. "'Oh, all I had to do is put on some gloves. I was ready to go again.' No, you weren't. That's why you're not taking this fight. Your foot is sore. ... My knee was jacked, too, for my last fight. Guess what I did? I showed up. Because that's what a fucking champion does. Championship caliber, built different."

Du Plessis earned a second-round TKO win over Whittaker at UFC 290, clearing the way for a potential title fight versus Adesanya. Though the bout was never officially announced, it was expected to take place at UFC 293 in Australia.

Adesanya welcomed a potential bout versus Strickland.

"I'm fighting in Sydney," Adesanya said. "I don't give a fuck who. … Strickland, you're in. Let's do the man dance. Show you how to really dance."

Strickland, the No. 6 middleweight, is coming off a second-round TKO victory over Abusupiyan Magomedov on July 1. The 32-year-old has won his last two fights.

Adesanya last fought on April 8, defeating Alex Pereira to claim the middleweight belt.
