Rodriguez out of Magomedsharipov fight on Aug. 29
UFC president Dana White said Tuesday that Yair Rodriguez is out of his potential main event fight against Zabit Magomedsharipov on Aug. 29, according to Nolan King of MMA Junkie.
"(Rodriguez) had a high ankle sprain and a fracture," White said. "He's out."
White added that the UFC is looking for a different opponent for Magomedsharipov and won't postpone the event.
This is not the first time they have called off a much-anticipated fight. Rodriguez and Magomedsharipov had a match set for UFC 228 in September 2018, but "El Pantera" withdrew from the event due to an injury.
Rodriguez last fought in October 2019, beating Jeremy Stephens by unanimous decision in their rematch after an accidental eye poke ended their first meeting one month earlier.
Meanwhile, Magomedsharipov defeated Calvin Kattar by unanimous decision in his last appearance in November 2019 at UFC Fight Night 163.
