Despite numerous logistical and financial hurdles which have yet to be resolved, bettors appear confident Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor will ultimately throw down in a crossover megafight.
The Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook has taken in more than $10,000 in bets on the unsigned bout, ESPN's David Purdum reports. Action at the sportsbook has tilted heavily toward the underdog McGregor, including a $1,500 bet on the MMA star at +800.
"Most fights that are not official don't garner much handle until officially becoming announced," SuperBook assistant manager Jeff Sherman said. "I'm not surprised by the McGregor support, just that it has come without an official fight announcement."
Illustrating how lopsided bookmakers expect the potential fight to be, Mayweather opened as a -2,500 favorite at Westgate in February. But the undefeated future Hall of Famer recently trumpeted the fight's competitiveness, saying "anything can happen in the sport of boxing."
Bets at Westgate will be refunded if the bout does not occur by May 13, 2018, according to Purdum.
