VIDEO: Mike Grella scores fastest goal in MLS history

To say that New York Red Bulls winger Mike Grella was raring to go against the Philadelphia Union might just be the understatement of the year.

Grella took just seven seconds to score against the Union, latching onto the end of an errant back-pass at kickoff before slipping the ball past goalkeeper Andre Blake.

It was fast. Very fast. But was it the fastest goal in MLS history?

Indeed it was!

Grella, strangely enough, overtakes this honour from a fellow Red Bulls winger; in 2013, Australian midfielder Tim Cahill scored right at kickoff in just seven seconds against the Houston Dynamo.

Not to be outdone, Bradley Wright-Phillips then added a second goal against the Union three minutes later, giving New York a 2-0 lead less than five minutes into the game. That's also a record for the fastest one-two punch scored at the start of a match in MLS history.

Poor Philadelphia!
