Mauro Diaz ruled out for MLS playoffs with torn Achilles
FC Dallas may be the favourite to secure the 2016 MLS Supporters' Shield but its playoff ambitions may have been hampered after Mauro Diaz underwent surgery to repair a torn Achilles, ruling him out for the remainder of 2016.
Diaz suffered the injury in the 89th minute of FC Dallas' 2-1 win over the Seattle Sounders last Sunday, and his absence will be a blow for the Hoops as he has been instrumental in Dallas' success this year.
He has notched 13 assists in 27 matches in all competitions this season, good for third highest in the league.
Diaz has five league goals to his name, too, and in his stead, head coach Oscar Pareja might look to veteran attacking midfielder Mauro Rosales, Brazilian playmaker Getterson, or Guatemalan striker Carlos Ruiz to fill the missing void up top.
