Blue Jays' Cecil done for season after tearing calf muscle
Toronto Blue Jays left-hander Brett Cecil confirmed in a press conference Saturday that he'll avoid surgery and his season is done after tearing his left calf during a rundown involving Texas Rangers slugger Mike Napoli.
The 29-year-old, who limped off the field in the eighth inning Friday with what was first thought to be calf tightness, was evaluated by training staff and seen with an ice pack on his calf after allowing a hit and recording a strikeout in his second postseason appearance. He was also being fitted for crutches.
He underwent an MRI on the calf muscle and manager John Gibbons said postgame that Cecil suffered a "pretty significant" tear.
Cecil was one of the Blue Jays' best regular-season weapons out of the bullpen, posting a 2.48 ERA in 63 appearances and five saves.
