This is the end for Jeremy Affeldt.
The 36-year-old left-hander has decided to call it a career after 14 seasons in the major leagues.
"I want to thank everyone of you for the time here. Seven years with the (San Francisco Giants) organization," Affeldt said in a press conference Thursday. "I've been thinking about this all year. It's been a hard year on me, I want to be more invested with my family.
"It's time for me to walk away. This game is meant for young men. I feel right now I need to leave. I'm going to take my ball and go home."
Affeldt posted a 6.09 ERA in 50 appearances with the Giants this season.
The former third-round pick out of Spokane, Wash., was one of San Francisco's best weapons out of the bullpen when it won World Series titles in 2010, 2012, and 2014.
