Drew's solo home run helps snap Yankees' 31-inning scoreless streak
The New York Yankees have done it, they've scored a run.
Stephen Drew was the unlikeliest of candidates to snap the Yankees' 31-inning scoreless innings streak, but the second baseman broke up the scuffling offense by launching a 391-foot home run over the right-field wall Tuesday off Cleveland Indians starter Carlos Carrasco.
The Yankees are coming off being swept at home by the Toronto Blue Jays in which they scored just one run and were shut out in back-to-back games for the first time since 1999.
Drew's 14th home run on the season also came at the cost of another streak. Carrasco hadn't allowed a run in 22 consecutive innings before serving up the blast.
Carlos Beltran would hit a solo shot of his own two innings later to tie the game 2-2.
