Fans hoping to see Max Scherzer pitch in the All-Star Game on Tuesday are going to be disappointed.
The Washington Nationals right-hander has been announced as Sunday's starter versus the Balitmore Orioles, making him ineligible to pitch on short rest in the Midsummer Classic.
Manager Matt Williams has made the decision to move Scherzer up in the rotation in order to squeeze an additional start out of his ace. Scherzer will be pitching on regular rest, however, due to the club's off-day Thursday.
The fireballer is every bit deserving of an All-Star nod, compiling a 9-7 record with a sparkling 2.12 ERA and 143 strikeouts in 123 1/3 innings. The highlight of his season to this point, of course, was his no-hitter against the Pittsburgh Pirates in June.
