The Tampa Bay Rays announced Tuesday that they've agreed to terms with first-round selection Garrett Whitley.
The deal includes a signing bonus worth $2,962,000, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, which is the full slot value for the No. 13 overall pick.
Whitley, a high school senior out of Niskayuna, N.Y., is expected to join the Gulf Coast League team in Port Charlotte.
"Garrett has all the tools we look for in a young prospect, both physically and mentally," Rays scouting director R.J. Harrison said in a release, courtesy of Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. "He has the tools to play center field and hit in the middle of a lineup, and has the potential to impact the game with his legs, bat and glove."
The outfielder hit .351 with a .479 on-base percentage, three homers and 15 steals in 20 games this season.
