Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Jose Reyes is off to a hot start this season, and he's doing it in spite of a sore left oblique.
"It's okay," Reyes told Scott MacArthur of TSN prior to Tuesday's game. "I've been grinding, man. I have to wear this because (Monday) it was bothering me a lot. I'll continue to play like that."
Reyes has started in each of the Blue Jays' seven games to start the season, hitting .357/.387/.429 with a pair of doubles along with three RBIs.
While the four-time All-Star doesn't believe his injury has limited him defensively, he did admit that it makes swinging the bat difficult at times.
"The only problem that I have is swinging the bat from the left side," Reyes said. "I get to one point and it's bothering me. That's why you see me, I don't try to go too far across swinging the bat, I just try to put the ball in play. But it's good enough to be on the field."
Reyes, who managed to appear in 143 games last season, has landed on the disabled list in each of the last two seasons.
