Free-agent catcher Russell Martin is set to meet with three more teams after having a discussion with the Chicago Cubs on Thursday, reports CBS' Bruce Levine.
Martin will engage in serious talks with the Toronto Blue Jays, Los Angeles Dodgers and his former team, the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Cubs are believed to be aggressively pursuing the 31-year-old backstop to help mold their young pitching staff. The Cubbies are also expected to be very busy this offseason luring some of the best starting pitchers available like Jon Lester, Max Scherzer and James Shields.
Levine suggests Martin should command a contract similar to the five-year, $75-million deal the New York Yankees signed Brian McCann to last fall.
Martin hit .290 with 11 home runs and 67 RBIs, while throwing out 39 percent of attempted base stealers last season.
