Paul Konerko isn't going to let a fractured bone in his left hand dictate when his final plate appearance has taken place.

Thought to be injured on Sept. 2 when tagging out a baserunner, the 38-year-old slugger was clear on Saturday that he'll be back at some point in September:

Konerko will retire at the end of the season, his 18th in the majors and 16th with the Chicago White Sox. While it's been another down year as the former 40-home run man rounds out his career - he's hitting just .220/.272/.344 with five home runs in 202 plate appearances - it's understandable he'd want to go out on his own terms.

Sept. 27 is Paul Konerko Night at U.S. Cellular Field, and the team wraps their season at home on Sept. 28. Obviously, those dates will become somewhat of a worst-case target for Konerko as he lets his hand rest up.
