With Jake Peavy making his first start since being traded to the San Francisco Giants, general managers are reminded about the impact they can make on their club by acquiring the right player down the stretch.

Here are the latest trade rumors from around the league:

  • The Boston Red Sox made one of the bigger moves in the last two weeks by sending Peavy to the Giants. Now it appears they may be open to trading ace Jon Lester, according to general manager Ben Cherington.
  • The Giants are reportedly "ready to act" if the Tampa Bay Rays decide to trade second baseman Ben Zobrist.
  • The Red Sox aren't the only ones looking at Kemp. The Seattle Mariners reportedly have real interest in him. The Mariners have already been linked to pticher David Price and outfielder Marlon Byrd.
  • The Yankees aren't willing to let fate decide their playoff chances. The club is reportedly interested in Josh Willingham. The Minnesota Twins outfielder's salary is what apparently makes him a more attractive option for New York, over other potentially-available infielders like Byrd or Alex Rios.
  • With so many rumors about what might happen, here is one about what might not. Dodgers  general manager Ned Colletti said his club "may not do anything" before Thursday's deadline.
