It turns out sticking his hand out to catch a falling knife wasn't the most embarrassing detail of Giants pitcher Matt Cain's recent finger laceration.

The right-hander, who was placed on the disabled list on Sunday, was making a ham and cheese sandwich in the clubhouse last week before he dropped the knife.

Cain made the details of the intricate designs of the sandwich known on Monday, when speaking with Henry Shulman of the San Francisco Gate

“I went to cut it, to make it fancy in triangles," he said.

Cain expects to make his next scheduled start on Saturday in Los Angeles.
